from hero to villain.
His arm band said he was a red but his conduct approaching the transfer deadline said he was a spiteful selfish fraud.
Fernando Torres joined Liverpool as a self confessed Liverpool fan. he worked hard and won the hearts of the fans.
Following a fantastic season which saw Liverpool finish 2nd in the league we had a disastrous season which some may blame on losing our star player through injury.
After that Torres was a different player. Moody and frustrated he looked unhappy and out of sorts on the pitch. Made of glass we again played many games without him.
We allowed him to miss the end of the season to get knee surgery in time for the world cup. Spain won but Torres pulled up injured during the final.
The upheaval of owners and managers had an unsettling effect and no one played to their best ability but the return to the helm of King Kenny had a dramatic effect on the whole team - with Torres seeming to have benefitted the most.
But then 2 days before the transfer window closed Torres handed in a transfer request. Not only choosing not to honour his commitment to the club and fans but forcing us to spend record amounts on new players as we desperately needed to fill his boots.
The ultimate betrayal, Torres was pictured with the Chelsea shirt saying "he's always wanted to play for a big club"
Torres says he left because we weren't spending any money. although he submitted his request after we agreed terms for Suarez.
Torres had the makings of an Anfield legend, looked up to by children and adults alike. A hero. He could've been remembered throughout the annals of history alongside Dalglish and Rush, but his conduct this week will see his future memory as just another player.
I dread to think what will happen when we visit Stamford bridge next week but I hope that the betrayal of a hero and the devastation of the fans will spur the players to go out there and win... and then go on to beat Chelsea to a champions league place and become Champions league winners 2012...
Torres can go lament his mistake with former Liverpool player Michael Owen - he also left us to win stuff in Europe didn't he?

A game of 2 sexes
It was so refreshing to see a female official during Liverpool's visit to Wolves on Saturday afternoon. If nothing else it proves that women certainly can and do understand the off-side rule.
I think it's fantastic that women are being acknowledged, not only as being genuine supporters of the game but taken seriously and given the same chances to make a career out of the sport.
So I was pretty gutted when I heard the news today about the dinosaurs at Sky - Andy Gray and Richard Keys...and I was planning a good old rant but my good pal has beaten me to it in a far more eloquent manner than I could hope to match: http://gaviota-outbox.blogspot.com/2011/01/sexist-sky-nosaurs.html
So instead I'd like to make a special mention of Kenny Daglish and his daughter Kelly for their amusing responses to the story.
Kenny Dalglish sat down for a press conference and as a female reporter took her position at the front Kenny turned to the Sky reporters next to her and said "Are you boys alright with her being here?" which was met by the correct proportions of shame on the part of the Sky reporters and laughter by everyone else.
Following that Kelly tweeted a sarcastic comment on her twitter account claiming she was exhausted from learning about the off-side rule and needed to buy some shoes to recover!
If Andy Gray and Richard Keys imagine for even a second that the daughters of some of the most successful sportsmen in the country don't understand the rules of the game then they really should be ashamed of themselves.
It is really quite remarkable that Gray & Keys can be so narrowminded and shortsighted when amongst their own peers there are successful, popular and knowledgeable female reporters who have grown up living and breathing football in much the same way as I would imagine any female referee/lineswoman would.
Wind up the clock boys, it's 2011. You pair of old fashioned sexist fools.

El Nino
I don't know why there's so much debate of the 'will he stay or will he go' variety surrounding Fernando Torres.
The argument for him leaving appears to be:
• Liverpool aren't in the champions league so he won't stay at a club where he can't achieve his ambition of a champions league medal.
The way I see it, and I'm just a girl and should maybe stick to topics I'm more familiar with such as knitting and kittens, but didn't we kind of put all our eggs in one basket? We expected to win the league last season based on our previous season with Torres scoring for fun. But then he spent most of last season injured or recovering from operations. And when he did play it was a desperate measure and he got brought on before he was fit enough and guess what happened... Oh yeah he got injured again.
We have placed so much expectation on Torres working miracles for us that when he was on the bench we criticised Rafa for not playing him, but when he comes on unfit and is set back again we moan at Rafa for playing him too soon. Rafa couldn't do right for doing wrong where Torres was concerned.
When he's fit Torres has such an impact on the way the rest of the team plays. They look more confident and they play better. But if we are going to improve on last seasons dreadful performance we have to stop relying on one man to do it... Especially if that one man appears to be made of glass.
Here's why I have never thought Torres was leaving Liverpool this season... If Torres is fit all season any team he plays for is capable of winning whatever league they compete in... He wants a champions league medal but getting one by sitting on the bench injured at Man City won't be much of an achievement...
Torres strikes me as a player with a love if the game and a passion and loyalty to his team. Joining a team that has ruthlessly bought their success by a massive cash injection won't give him the same pride as winning with a team that have the history and passion of Liverpool.
And it seems to me that if Torres had been fit all season we would probably have finished in the top 4 and if nothing else he'll at least want to put that right this season.
We need to stop relying on one player... We need more players that can effect the game on the pitch and score like it's a hobby! We can't just hope Torres is fit and then feel sorry for ourselves when he's injured and we start losing.
But we also need to stop worrying about whether he'll stay or go. No player is bigger than the team. If Torres leaves we'll replace him with someone else capable of scoring goals.
But there's just as much chance he'll stay and spend half the season injured again.
So why would he bother leaving? Im sure he'd rather be fit and earn his medals with us than win them from the treatment room somewhere else.
